On the occasion of the celebration of the cultural event 'Viva Europa 2010' on the18th of June, the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia of Valencia will broadcast live opera for citizens from all over Europe. The event will consist of a simultaneous screening in several European cities of the George Bizet’s masterpiece 'Carmen', which will be performed in real time in the main room of the Valencian auditorium.
The aim of this initiative is, by using new technologies, to foster the feeling of European coexistence, while bringing the opera closer to the citizens as an artistic and cultural demonstration. The reason of the election of the opera 'Carmen' is due to the universality feeling that this character transmits in the popular belief.
This is the second screening of this kind organized by the the Valencian Auditorium. Last year, 15.000 citizens from several European cities of Italy, United Kingdom and Belgium could watch live the opera 'The Valkyrie' of Richard Wagner, which counted on the participation, among others, of Plácido Domingo and the innovative staging of La Fura dels Baus.
