EU launches European Journalism Award against discrimination

  On the occasion of the European Year 2010 to fight against poverty and social exclusion, the European Commission launches the 'EU Journalist Award: together against Discrimination!'. This prize rewards online or print journalists in the EU who, through their work, contribute to a better public understanding of the value and benefits of diversity and the fight against discrimination in Europe.

Journalists from the 27 EU Member States are encouraged to send written or online articles  dealing with subjects regarding discrimination on  the grounds of racial or ethnic origin, religion or belief, age, disability and sexual orientation. The aim is to raise awareness on the benefits of promoting diversity in Europe.

Works will be evaluated with regard to their relevance to discrimination issues and the European context, their news value, the complexity of research and preparation involved, and their originality and creativity, as well as their impact on the general public.

Entries must be published in print or online media between 1 September 2009 and 17 September 2010 will receive a prize with a value of €5,000.

The deadline for sending articles is September 17th 2010.
